Actually, there’s a reasons why all of these fruits have these names.
Bananas are just bananas- and not all bananas are even yellow (a quick google search can prove that). Apples- same reason. It’s the kind of fruit they are.
Now for the orange. Ah, oranges, you’ve made life so confusing for children and adults alike. In order to explain this, I’m going to have to give a quick history lesson. Oranges are from everywhere that isn’t English speaking Europe (generalization, but they’re from a lot of places that aren’t Florida- like southeast Asia). The English name “orange” comes from the Sanskrit word for orange tree. What does this reveal? Orange is primarily the name of the fruit, not the name of the colour. This means that the name for the colour that resembles that which is the hue of an orange or a satsuma, is orange. This explains why there are various things in the English vernacular that call things red, when they are really orange (robin’s breast red, red-headed). The word “orange did not exist for the colour, it was instead referred to as “yellow-red”.
So let’s not call yellow “banana”, or red “apple”, and appreciate how now instead of just wondering about the orange mystery we can look it up and solve the problem.
